San Jose del Cabo is the authentic township and host of the Los Cabos International Airport. Cabo San Lucas is 20 miles south at the southern tip of the peninsula. Traveling from The International Airport to Lighthouse Point Estates or to Cabo San Lucas is approximately 45 minutes.
Lighthouse Point Estates – Information
In 1535 Herman Cortes and in 1542 Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo were the first explorers to recognize Los Cabos. Shortly after, the route of the Manila Galleons was established and the ports of call along the coast allowed pirates to win the battle over the Spanish ships. Among the first of many to succeed was Francis Drake in 1578 and then Thomas Cavendish in 1587. It was not until 1730 that San Jose del Cabo was founded by the Jesuit priest Father Nicolas Tamara. In 1974 the Federal Government through Fonatur began creating the infrastructure to develop San Jose del Cabo into one of the more beautiful planned tourist centers in the country.
Today, Los Cabos is one of the favorite beach destinations for international tourists, with championship golf courses, tennis courts, world-class restaurants, shopping, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Try your skill at sports fishing for marlin, roosterfish, sailfish, swordfish, mahi-mahi, and yellowtail. The area is also well known for swimming, snorkeling, sailing, and surfing, and to divers for its colonies of black coral and other marine fauna that inhabit the waters. Lighthouse Point Estates – Local Information
Tour the surrounding areas and you will discover the famous arch of Cabo San Lucas, where the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortes meet. Visit the San Jose del Cabo estuary, an ecologic paradise with a variety of vegetation and the habitat of many species of tropical birds. The coral reefs of Cabo Pulmo are within minutes of Lighthouse Point and are noted as one of Jacques Cousteau’s favorite dive locations. Also worth a visit is the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve and the Santiago Zoo and Museum of giant fossils. Sports Fishing / Lighthouse Point Information
Sports fishing along the East Cape is world-class. Between April and October, striped marlin can be seen sleeping on the surface of the water, free-jumping or feeding, and is a common catch. The blue marlin is in abundance from July through October and weighs an average of two hundred to four hundred and fifty pounds. Black marlin or big blacks can weigh in at over nine hundred pounds. Along the shores of Lighthouse Point Estates, Roosters are among the great game fish. Sailfish, wahoo, dorado, and yellowfin tuna also add to the excitement of the sport.
